Landing at Your Dream Destination

Landing at Your Dream Destination

Are you considering a big move to a new destination? If you are, you are not alone. Thousands of American retirees move each year. Here are some hotspot locations that other seniors are choosing for retirement.

Top locations in the U.S. and Canada     Top locations abroad

Tennessee

Retirees flooded to the Volunteer State in 2021, with those under 65 leading the pack. Tennessee is home to lovely rural areas, and the lowest tax burden in the continental United States.

Panama

With its mild tropical climate, coastal towns, updated infrastructure, and accessible transportation, Panama is at the very top of International Living’s Annual Global Retirement Index.

Florida

Aptly named The Sunshine State, many seniors move to Florida for its pleasant weather and lively culture. It has been a hotspot for decades, making it easier to find activities and communities for retirees with all sorts of interests.

Mexico

Mexico has long been a favorite retirement destination and houses more American expats than any other country.

Want to explore a new culture, but with a hint of the familiar? Besides being close to home and offering a very affordable cost of living, certain towns including San Miguel

de Allende, Lake Chapala, and Playa del Carmen have thriving communities of expat seniors.

Pennsylvania

Over 10% of seniors who moved out-of-state in 2021 settled in Pennsylvania, with over two-thirds of them picking Pittsburgh. The city offers reasonably-priced housing, affordable healthcare and a vibrant community of retirees.

Costa Rica

With Caribbean beaches and Pacific coastlines, quaint rural areas and booming cities, cultural diversity and a large population of English-speaking expats, it is understandable

why the U.S. Department of State estimates around 700,000 Americans reside in Costa Rica.

British Columbia

If you are looking for outdoor adventure in a rugged landscape, Victoria, British Columbia might be for you. Its pacific beaches are perfect for seniors with an interest in boating, hiking, or seaside walks.

Portugal

Its low cost of living and proximity to top travel locations has made Portugal a retirement hub for decades. Cascais is home to several golf courses, a castle, miles of cobblestone walkways, and a thriving community of English-speaking expats.

Virginia

In 2020, about 15% of retired Americans that moved out-of- state settled in Charlottesville, Roanoke, or Virginia Beach. Although popular with all types of seniors, women and singles were more likely to settle in Virginia.

Greece

If you have funds to invest overseas, consider relocating to Greece. Visas are readily available to expats who purchase property, and their 7% flat tax appeals to many investors.
